Because of our growth, we are looking for highly skilled and detail-oriented High Net Worth Individual (HNWI) Tax Manager to join our Tax Department in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing tax compliance and advisory services for high-net-worth individuals, including executives, entrepreneurs, family offices, and closely-held business owners.
Overview
This role requires a deep understanding of tax planning strategies for individuals with complex financial portfolios, estate planning, and wealth transfer. The HNWI Tax Manager will work closely with partners, clients, and other members of the tax team to deliver customized tax solutions that meet the unique needs of affluent clients.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance and Advisory
-Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, and family entities.
-Provide sophisticated tax planning and advisory services, including wealth transfer strategies, charitable giving, and estate planning.
-Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns, with a focus on compliance with current tax laws and regulations.
-Conduct technical research on complex tax issues and provide guidance on tax-saving strategies tailored to each client's financial situation.
Client Relationship Management
-Serve as the primary point of contact for HNWI clients, ensuring exceptional service and addressing any tax-related inquiries or concerns.
-Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their goals and financial objectives, identifying tax planning opportunities, and offering tailored solutions.
-Collaborate with the firm's estate planning, real estate, and corporate departments to deliver integrated and comprehensive tax solutions.
-Coordinate with clients' external advisors (financial planners, investment advisors, etc.) to align tax strategies with overall financial plans.
Tax Planning and Wealth Management
-Develop and implement tax-efficient strategies for income, estate, and gift tax planning.
-Advise clients on the implications of investments, private equity holdings, real estate, and business interests, focusing on minimizing tax liabilities.
-Assist in the structuring of complex financial transactions, including business sales, succession planning, and charitable contributions.
-Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the potential impact on client portfolios, updating strategies as necessary.
Project and Team Management
-Lead and mentor a team of tax associates, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
-Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring that deadlines are met and work quality remains high.
-Review work prepared by junior staff, providing constructive feedback to enhance technical skills and professional development.
-Support the development of internal best practices and quality control standards within the tax department.
Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree (MST, JD, or LLM in Taxation) is highly preferred.
-CPA or JD required.
-5+ years of recent experience, with an emphasis on individual taxation, specifically serving high-net-worth clients, within a public accounting firm, law firm, or financial advisory firm.
-Strong experience in income, estate, gift, and trust taxation.
-Proven track record of managing complex client portfolios and delivering sophisticated tax planning solutions.
Skills
-In-depth knowledge of federal and state tax laws, with a particular focus on high-net-worth individuals.
-Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients clearly.
-Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
-Proficiency with tax preparation software, financial planning tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
-Client Focus: A dedication to understanding the needs of high-net-worth clients and providing personalized tax solutions.
